night was falling fast and seventeen year old landon was beginning to grow tired of hearing his cousin, lorraine sing at the top of her lungs to whatever boy band was screeching through her speakers, while managing to still hog the upstairs bathroom the two shared. moving in with his father wasn't some type of fantasy for him, but knowing that lorraine was here to feel the pain too was all the better. the two were cousins but more like twins separated at birth - with both having flaws and opinions, they were still able to remain glued together. for as long as the curly haired boy could remember, lorraine and him had always been best friends and she had always been the ones looking out for him when his parents weren't. that time when he was five and burned his hand on her easy bake oven, lorraine was there to run cold water over it and stop his crying. when landon fell off his bike while his parents were hosting a barbeque in their backyard - while they were still married - and no one else heard his cries, she came running out of the house with an ice pack already in hand. and finally - not to mention the countless other times - she was there for him when he experienced his first love triangle as she guided him through and gave him the best advice she could think of. those were the times that made landon's respect for his cousin to grown immensly and as much as he tried to be there for her in return, lorraine was the type that always had it figured out - even though she truly had no clue what to do at that moment. the two had lived together before for a short time, but the brunette had never actually moved in with him and made an attempt to stay. even though landon wanted to leave and never come back, having lo there with him made the living arrangements a lot easier. usually, after his dad went to sleep the two would walk out to the backyard and swim or catch a late night movie downtown, or walk over to the lighthouse like they used to do and sit there without saying a word - yet, the each knew what the other was thinking. it was almost mind reading, as crazy as that sounded.
"you have been in there forever, lorraine! last time i checked, it doesn't take three hours to put on makeup!" as soon as the words escaped his mouth, his face twisted and he realized how un-manly that how sounded. how the hell did he know how long it took to put on makeup? shaking the thought off his mind, he continued banging on the door. it was almost nine and lorraine insisted she use the bathroom first - had he not learned his lesson before? - as he lounged across the couch, eating cold pizza and trying to figure out another escape method to leaving for jersey. he hadn't talked to his mom in at least three days and she had firmly told him he shouldn't plan on coming back anytime soon and that if he even thought about hopping on a plane back, she'd get rid of the attorney and let him suffer the consequences. as harsh as that sounded, landon knew she didn't mean what she said, but he didn't dare try either. if he was going to continue living with his father, at least lo was here to keep him company and that new girl he met the other night, ellie. he wanted to get to know her more, but he had failed to mention a word about her to lo. she had mention ellie a few times casually, almost asking him if he was even remotely interested but he always acted like he didn't care - the usual for typical landon. he instantly snapped out of his thoughts as lorraine's response from inside of the bathroom was heard. she could be such a girl at times. he almost forgot she was even a girl when they were around eachother - she was super laidback and not like the other girls, the usual ones that cared what they looked like or what they said or tried to act to stupid. his cousin kept it real and even though she did care about her appearence, she wasn't one to check the mirror ever minute constantly. turning on his heel, he leaned his back against the door and ran a hand through his curls as sigh escaped his lips.
